Powder coated, chrome moly steel tube frame chassis with fiberglass body built to exact 1970 917K
dimensions; chassis number 005 of a planned 25 made by Kraftwerkz in Melbourne, Australia. Curb weight
with all fluids and 1⁄2 tank of fuel 1814 lbs. First one built with “Daytona” window above windshield to
improve sightlines around the oval. Chassis and driveline completed in the spring of 2004.
Unequal length A-arm suspension with adjustable Spax dampers and AP Racing four pot disc brake
calipers, Porsche drilled rotors, balanced front to back with Tilton balance bar and dual master cylinders.
Dunlop period racing tires (4.30/11.60-15 front; 5.30/15.00-15 rear) on custom centerlock alloy rims.
Driveline is a Porsche 3.8L RSR aircooled race motor built by The Racer’s Group, Sonoma, CA from a spare
endurance 964 block and heads for their Daytona 24 Hours cars; TWM individual 54 mm throttle bodies with custom carbon fiber air horns; Electromotive WinTEC3 computer controlled engine management and Bosch injectors produces over 425 HP with peak torque of 327 ft lbs (over 300 from 4000 RPM). 915 Porsche gearbox with WEVO lightweight flywheel and hydraulic actuated clutch (5.5” Tilton racing), ring and pinion flipped, WEVO bearing plate, limited-slip, with custom gearing of 16/35, 20/32/, 23/28, 26/26, and 28/33 producing top end over 190 mph at 8000 rpm.
Basic set-up and testing at Porsche DE events at NHIS, Lime Rock and Mt. Tremblant.
